SEMINAR
INFOTECH CD HOLDS ANNUAL SEMINAR.
The Information Technology Community Development service (InfoTech CD) Lagos branch of the National Youth Service Corps held their annual seminar tagged: NIGERIAN JUVENILE AND ICT; SPRINGBOARD FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT at the Center for Information Technology and Systems (CITS), University of Lagos, on the 29th of January.
The seminar served as awareness among the under-served communities with a special focus on secondary schools students from ten (10) public schools around the surulere province of Lagos State. Since inception, the group has carried out various ICT awareness programs in form of trainings and others alike, some of which includes; ICT training for NYSC Lagos staffs, weekly trainings in ten (10) secondary schools.
The seminar saw top notable and respected Individuals who have made tremendous impact in their various areas of specialization.
The first speaker of the day was Mrs. Florence Seriki, MD Omatek computers. She advised the students on choosing the right career path and different ways of following up on their respective careers and dreams. She also emphasized on the importance of ICT in every areas of industrialization. Also in attendance was Mr. Napoleon(center manager, karRox surulere), Mr. Afe (The InfoTech CD coordinator), Mr. Adebayo Adewakun,a seasoned entrepreneur and Assistant governor Rotaract Club, District 9110 and Mr. Ronak Dhanuka Of karRox Ikeja. Mr Ronak spoke exhaustively about what IT really means, how it affects the average Nigerian and the effect in the Nigerian economy. He also outlined the requirements to be relevant in the IT industry, not neglecting to mention the benefits of being an IT practitioner...
The highlight of the day was the debate amongst the schools present for and against the motion "ICT IS MORE PIVOTAL TO NIGERIA'S ECONOMY THAN CRUDE OIL” with the team opposing the motion coming out tops. At the end of the debate and seminar, refreshments were served and awards were giving to the respective winners of various groups/schools.
Finally, We the InfoTech corps member would like to use this medium to thank our various sponsors in the likes of KARROX and to ALL those who contributed directly and indirectly in making this seminar worthwhile. Also, a heartfelt greeting goes to our departing colleagues, BATCH A corps. Wishing them success in their various life choosing careers.
